‘The Sound of eBay’ is an online audio generator that converts user data from eBay into electronic music. At first sight a pointless project, ‘The Sound of eBay’ mirrors the nonsensical behaviour that Web 2.0 users show off on a daily basis. With its visual references to pornography, the project refers to the pleasures of consumption and shopping. Appropriating personal data from eBay users and translating it into catchy techno music challenges the anxiety induced by omnipresent surveillance.
